Important things in life:

Many people try to fit in too much into their lives. I am guilty of that at times. One thing must never be sacrificed in all that busyness....that is relationships. Relationships to God, our spouses, and our children. God designed us for relationship with Him and designed the family as a hands on example of that love and relationship.

Last week's kids art class went great. The kids were a joy to teach. They were well mannered and kind to one another. The favorite classes were quilting and clay. The kids used sewing machines to piece their quilts and learned how to use a seam ripper too. Everyone learned about making mistakes proves that you are learning something new and are getting better. We all learned something new without regret and had a lot of fun. Luke's wood burned jewelry box was amazing and precious. He was also very good at weaving. The jewelry class was easier than weaving. The creations were very well done and will be proudly worn by them or their fortunate mothers.
Next month's class will include quilting, clay and book making. We will learn to make books and book covers with a special printing technique that is messy and beautiful.
See you soon!

Puppets

The kids did great with the puppets Sunday. We had 3 puppeteers not make it to practice that morning. One I knew was out of town. One forgot. One didn't feel well. We combined both teams and reworked a song so all who came could perform. What a blessing they are.
We won't have practice again until after Easter. The adults will work on a comedy skit and the kids will work on the puppet song that will go with the skit. It is about working together as one in Christ. It will be good. Take care and God bless you and your family. Desiree

Spring babies

Today we had a baby catastrophe. An older cow (10 years old) had twins during last nights storm. She only recognized one as hers and refuses to claim the other. Mark and I worked at getting all three together . The mother was protective and tried to hurt Mark. He was able to use some farm wisdom to get both babies away from the angry mom and lure her into the barn to milk her. He fed the orphan and gave the mom some injections of Vitamins to help her get more stable and strong. We rarely have twins in beef cows. Theses beef mommas can be dangerous and wild to approach. I thank God all are well. Especially for the wisdom He gave Mark and the protection He provided. The refusal of the momma to give milk to her baby in need is so heart breaking. She pushes away the calf she gave birth to as it desperately tries to get the needed milk to survive. It doesn't understand the mother and the mother doesn't think it is her baby.
How sad it is that many push away their creator and Father in heaven? How it must break His heart as He has all we need to survive. He is my creator and comforter. He will never leave me or forsake me. I am His adopted child. Thank God! Jeremiah 1:5 says "before I formed you in the womb, I knew you and approved of you" . Ephesians 1:5"For He foreordained us to be adopted as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will so that we might be to the praise and the commendation of His glorious grace, which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved." Blessings to all. Desiree

Glazing went faster than usual. This is what I'm trying to get in colors. This is my nan glaze with drippy brown on top. The Jill Brown glaze looked great. I'll have to see the final firing results to get a true test. Best blue is still my most dependable color.

pottery

Today is glazing day. I really hate to glaze. The chemicals are hard on my hands and if I'm not careful, all my work is ruined with one silly mistake. I have to pay close attention to details. It takes all day for me. Got to get going.... I need to mix a new stain, Jill Brown, before my guests arrive. Have a good day!

art for kids

:0
Today is my first blog posting!!!
I plan to offer kids art classes once a month at the pottery studio on our farm.
This month classes will start during spring break.
The cost of the art workshop is $35 for the whole day or $10 per class. Be sure to bring a sack lunch. Drinks are provided.
Class will be Tuesday, march 24th from 9 am to 2:45 pm
I want to start a quilt block per month. Then when we get enough squares, we will put them together. Children need to bring 2-3 pieces of old clothing to cut up for their squares that will help them remember their childhood.
This is the schedule for the day:
9-10:30- quilt block creation (heirloom traditional art)
10:30-1200-weaving around a candle votive or rock (beautiful gift project)
1200-1230- lunch
12:30-1:30- wire bending for earrings or ceiling fan pull (beautiful bead accents)
1:30-2:45- pottery at the wheel (only six students allowed for this)
Boys and girls are allowed for these classes.
There are several upcoming art contests in the community just for kids. The kids could show their art at these shows and maybe win prizes. I will let you know soon.
